What is a marijuana grow op (MGO)?
Simply put, an MGO is a building that has been converted into or used as a nursery or hydroponics operation to cultivate (grow) marijuana (cannabis) plants.

Effective October 17, 2018, marijuana use is legal in Canada.
However, under Manitoba law, it is still illegal to grow any amount of marijuana for personal use without registration with Health Canada.
Despite legalization, illegal grow ops can still be found in communities across Manitoba, and there are likely many homes in the province that still bear the scars of marijuana production.
What effects can growing marijuana have on a home?
The damage caused to a home by the production of marijuana may depend on the scale of the grow operation. There may be little or no effect if a few plants were being grown for medicinal use, but there may have been significant damage if the home was used as a large-scale production site. It is always a good idea to find out if marijuana was cultivated in the home because it can be difficult to assess potential damage without a full understanding of the home’s history.
Damage to a home from a grow op can include toxic mould caused by excessive moisture, electrical and wiring problems that can be a serious fire hazard, plumbing problems, ventilation issues, and other improper renovations.
