MoneySmart Manitoba is proud to launch Time to Call Out Fraud, a campaign that exposes the tactics used by scammers to manipulate, bully, and defraud Canadians. This is a rare opportunity to hear what fraud sounds like.

The campaign will run over the month of November for Financial Literacy Month. It is being launched as an initiative of the Manitoba Financial Services Agency. The aim of this campaign is to raise awareness about the prevalence of investment fraud and lift the veil of secrecy and shame that holds people back from speaking out.

1 in 5 Canadians report experiencing an encounter where these so-called “investment opportunities” are offered over the phone. It is easy to be defrauded and it can happen to you – whether you’re in your 20s or in your 80s. Victims have reported losses from $250 to $600,000.

Canadians are being urged to seek a second opinion before transferring money over the internet. Once that happens, it is impossible to trace or recover.

If an investment opportunity seems too good to be true, it’s because it is. Listen, learn and protect yourself!

If you need to talk to someone, please call 1-855-FRAUD-MB.
